Ari is the founder of Ash, a collection of boutique hotels housed in historic buildings that has become one of the most creative hospitality brands in the United States.
In 2012, he bought a former brothel in Providence for $1.2 million and transformed it into a cult hotel, paying back his investors in just 18 months without spending a single dollar on marketing.
Today, he runs hotels from Detroit to Baltimore, and has a knack for betting on America’s underdog cities before anyone else, while combining the roles of developer, designer and operator.
During a walk around Chinatown, with a cocktail at Bridges and a sake at Bar Asoko along the way, he tells us how to build a brand without ever setting out to create one, why naivety has been one of the keys to his success, and why New York nightlife remains his ultimate trend laboratory.
